Travel: Visiting Sequoia National Park

First of all, I have to say that the Sequoia National Park exceeded all my expectations, me and my husband had just finished a 10 day detox and we were very excited to keep on the healthy track by submerging into nature.

1- Hitting the road:
From LA to the Park it takes about 4 hours and a half. The road during Autumn is simply beautiful. Just keep in mind that a lot of roads and trails are closed during this time of year (we went there on the weekend before Thanksgiving).

2- Lodge

We stayed at the Jon Muir Lodge, which I have to say, is much better live than the pictures you see at their website. The Lodge is next to the General Grant Tree, not General Sherman. Very important information! I got confused. The drive to General Sherman takes about 45 minutes and there you have more options of trails, so keep that in mind when looking for accommodation. I usually plan everything on the last minute and that was all the vacancy left, so we have to work with what we got.

The restaurant at the lodge is okay, since is the only place to eat in the middle of the dark and the forest, let's also not be picky and deal with what we got. To be fair all the food I had was delicious, I just wish they had a wider variety (like tasty gluten free options).

It was filled with snow!

3- General Grant

General Grant is the second largest tree in the world and it's considered the Nation's Christmas Tree. It is beyond belief. It can't fit a picture.

That's a fire scar!

The other trees around General Grant and in the whole Park are also worth mentioning:

4- Weather

It was freezing!!! So pack your winter gear if going this time of year.

5- General Sherman

General Sherman is the largest tree in the world by volume.

6- Moro Rock

We did this 3 hours trail and it was worth every suffering second. It's very close to the General Sherman tree, in front of the tree museum. The road was closed because of the snow, so we had to walk all the way up, usually you can get by car till the beginning of the rock, which is too easy, come on.

7- Tunnel Log

The tunnel log is a diversion from the Moro Rock trail, so you can to both. And it's amazing, especially with snow on top of it. Usually you can also go there by car, but it was closed.

8- Along the way

These are the main attractions we saw, but along the trails and roads you also see breathtaking views and trees.

We didn't see any bears :( maybe next time...
